On Saturday 28 March, 2015 the Essendon Football Club’s GLoBALL Program was lucky enough to attended one of Melbourne’s most iconic international student events, The Lord Mayors Student Welcome.
This event was put on by the City of Melbourne who is a proud supporter of the GLoBALL Program and has been for many years. It was hosted at the Couch, a facility that does great work for the homeless and international student communities of Melbourne. The venue was a perfect fit and was a huge contributor to the overall success of the day.
The GLoBALL Program set up a stall where students were able to participate in a handball competition and could access information about how they could register for a FREE ticket to the footy. Essendon Football Club’s Multicultural Development Officer and GLoBALL Program Coordinator Salim Mahazi was thrilled with how the day panned out. ‘I love events like this where we are able to talk to students one on one and really give them all the information they need to utilise the programs services.’
Long time Ambassador of the program Gary Lee, who also assisted in coordinating the day said ‘he was so happy to have GLoBALL take part in the event… it’s great to see so many people, who know so little about the game, out there having fun handballing and kicking…GLoBALL is a great initiative and I encourage all international students to get involved.’
